Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts is from the fourth generation of Roberts family that been a resident of Atlanta. The story began with her great grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was an agriculturalist. Early on, her father began to take an interest in theater. When he was a student at Emory University he appeared in numerous productions in and outside of campus. In 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force and while stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi, he acted in a play that he performed in with Betty Lou Bredemus. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their baby son Eric Anthony, was born in the year 1956. Walter and his wife quit the Air Force in the year 1957 after which they began enrolment with Walter at Tulane University. Walter joined Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio at the time the family relocated from Atlanta to Decatur in Georgia in the year 1960. Walter along with Betty Lou began producing a television show for children in Decatur, Georgia called Bum Bum and His Buddies. They funded the show by themselves. The Actors and Writers Workshop was founded in 1964 and ran for 6 years. In 1965, they welcomed two children to the family: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
